Преображение Господне е. Днес забравяме за всякаква работа и приготвяме риба.
Това е един от най-старите религиозни празници в православието.
Отбелязва се още от първите векове на християнството, като отразяващ едно от най-важните събития от земния път на Исус Христос – разкриването на божествения му образ пред учениците му.
Разбира се, празникът има своите обреди и обичаи, като в същото време трябва да се спазват някои ограничения.
На 6 август по нов стил всяка година се отбелязва чудото на преображението, случило се на планината Тавор, което следвало да укрепи вярата на апостолите в божествената природа на Христос, когото Бог Отец посочил като негов възлюбен син.
За да се отбележи този ден подобаващо, не се работи нито на полето, нито вкъщи.
Разрешена е единствено шетнята около празничната трапеза за имениците на Преображение. Имен ден отбелязват Христо, Христина и производните им, както и всички имена, отразяващи Божията слава и светлина – Светла, Светлина, Светльо,Сияна, Християн, Християна, Спас, Спаска, и производните им.
На Преображение не се яде месо или млечни продукти, тъй като от 6 август започват строги пости, по-строги от които са само Великденските.
Разрешена е рибата, както и гроздето.
Първото грозде се благословяло с молитва и се прекадявало от свещеника в църквата, преди да се вкуси. И къпини не се ядели преди службата.
Тази забрана е свързана с поверието, че Господ е създал лозата и нейните плодове, давайки частица от своята благословия чрез тях, а Дяволът – къпините, за да изкуши хората.
На този ден в Светата Литургия на православните храмове се прибавя молитвено песнопение (тропар) със старославянското название "Начатки овощей", а в Българската православна църква – "Освещаване на гроздето".

На Преображение не се плува в открити езера и други водни басейни, тъй като се счита, че лятото отстъпва пред зимата и е време хората да се стягат за нея, а не да се къпят в студените води.
Според българския народен календар на Преображение настъпва трайно преобразяване в природата. Слънцето обръща гръб на лятото и лице към зимата, щъркелите се събират на ята преди да отлетят към топлите земи.
